Frequently asked questions

Everything about running a Kapture event, from what your guests see to what happens to the photos afterwards.

Getting started

A Kapture account and about five minutes. Craft your event, then share the join link or QR code. Your guests need nothing but a phone with a browser. No app, no account, no setup on their side.

Any reasonably modern browser on iPhone, Android, tablet or desktop. The camera runs in the browser itself, so there is nothing to install and nothing to keep updated. Guests on older phones can still upload from their camera roll if the live camera isn't supported.

Sign in, give your event a name, optionally set a start and end date, and choose how photos are revealed. Kapture gives you a join code, a shareable link and a QR code straight away.

Yes. Your event dashboard generates a printable table card with your event name and QR code, ready to print and put out on tables or at the door.

Yes. Set a start and end date on the event and the same join link stays open for the whole run. Outside that window guests are told the event hasn't started yet or has ended.

For your guests

No. Scanning the QR code or opening the link launches the camera directly in their browser. There is no app store step, which is the single biggest reason guests actually take part.

No. They enter a name so you can tell whose shots are whose, and can optionally leave an email if they want to be notified when the album is revealed. That's it.

Reopening the link on the same phone and browser picks up exactly where they left off, with their previous shots and remaining allowance intact. Clearing browser data or switching to a different phone starts them as a new guest.

25 by default. You can change that number for your event at any time, or add the unlimited captures add-on to remove the cap entirely.

Yes. Alongside the live camera there's an upload button for choosing an existing photo or video from their gallery.

Shots are saved on their device and upload automatically as soon as the connection comes back. Venues with patchy wifi are exactly the case this is built for.

That's up to you. See the reveal modes below. In every mode, guests can always see their own shots.

Photos, albums and downloads

Open reveals each approved photo to everyone as it comes in. Delayed keeps the album hidden until a time you choose, so the big reveal stays a surprise. Private means guests only ever see their own shots, and the full set is yours alone.

Yes. Captures wait for your approval, with automatic screening built in. Before approval a photo is visible only to you and the guest who took it.

Yes. You can download the complete album as a single archive from your dashboard, at full resolution, as many times as you like.

There's no cap on the album itself. What you choose controls the totals: your guest tier sets how many people can join, and the per-guest capture limit sets how many shots each of them can take.

Twelve months on a paid plan, so there's plenty of time to come back for them. The free event is kept for four weeks, long enough to come back for the album, and deliberately not long enough to be treated as storage. Either way, download the album if you want a permanent copy.

Yes. Point any TV or projector at the live wall and approved shots appear as they're taken.

Pricing and upgrades

Free for gatherings up to 4 guests. Beyond that it's a one-time payment based on your guest count, starting at R99.99 for 25 guests. There's no subscription and guests never pay anything.

Yes, from your event dashboard, even while the party is running. Upgrades only ever move you up, so you can never accidentally downgrade an event that's already underway.

No. An upgrade updates your existing event, so the join code, link and QR code you've already printed or shared all keep working.

The code itself doesn't expire. If you've set a start and end date, guests can only join inside that window; without one, the link stays open.

Unlimited captures removes the per-guest photo limit, and video capturing lets guests record clips of up to 30 seconds. Each is a one-time R199.99 and can be added at any point, including mid-event.

If your album was never downloaded and holds under 50 photos, you can cancel from your event dashboard for a full refund.

Troubleshooting

Almost always browser permissions. Their browser will have asked for camera access the first time. If it was dismissed or denied, they can re-enable it in site settings and reload. They can also upload from their camera roll instead.

That means the event's end date has passed. Extend or clear the end date on your event and the link opens again immediately.

You've reached the guest limit for your tier. Upgrade to a larger tier from your dashboard and they can join straight away, and your existing QR code keeps working.

Videos are processed after upload and show up once that finishes, usually within a minute or two. Video capturing also has to be enabled on the event before guests see the option.

Privacy and the planet

Only you and the guest who took the shot. Nothing reaches the shared album or the live wall until you approve it.

There's no plastic camera body, no film, no chemical developing and nothing shipped to a lab and back. Guests use a phone they already brought, and the only ongoing cost is storing the photos.

A shared album collects whatever people happen to point at it. Kapture gives every guest a camera with a shutter, a capture limit and a disposable-camera feel, then puts approval and reveal timing in your hands.
